Keeping your home electrical system safe and up-to-date is crucial to avoid electrical hazards and prevent fire outbreaks.
Here are a few tips you should consider to help you maintain the safety of your electrical system:
Regular inspection and maintenance - Hire a licensed electrician to inspect your electrical system every few years and fix any issues. This will ensure your system is up to date and functioning correctly.
Use surge protectors - Surges from lightning strikes or power outages can damage your electrical devices. Using surge protectors can protect your appliances and prevent damage to your electrical system.
Check for frayed or damaged wires - Frayed, striped, ruptured, and/ or any damaged wires can cause a fire. Check for any visible damage and replace any damaged wires immediately.
Avoid overloading outlets - Overloading outlets its not a smarts idea, that can cause a fire. Make sure not to plug too many devices into one outlet and use power strips if necessary plugged into separate circuits.
Upgrade your electrical panel - An outdated electrical panel can be a safety hazard. If your home was built before 1980, consider upgrading your panel to a newer and safer one. If your house has any of the Zinsco or Federal Pacific electrical panel, or Fuse box consider upgrading your panel as of a major priotity and importance.
